Clean haircare for Type 2, 3 & 4 textures

1. About OBIA Naturals

What is OBIA Naturals?

OBIA Naturals is a clean, vegan hair and skin care brand formulated for natural, curly, and coily hair. Every product is pH-balanced, 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and made without the harmful ingredients found in many conventional beauty products. Our line is designed with textured hair in mind — from Type 2 wavy to Type 4 coily — and includes cleansers, conditioners, deep treatments, styling products, hair oils, and body care.

Are OBIA Naturals products vegan?

Yes — 100%. All OBIA Naturals products are fully vegan. That means no honey, beeswax, goat’s milk, lanolin, or animal-derived proteins. We believe clean beauty should be compassionate beauty, so all of our proteins and emulsifiers are plant-based.

Are your products cruelty-free?

Absolutely. OBIA Naturals does not test on animals, and we never will. Our products are entirely cruelty-free.

What does “pH Balanced” mean, and why does it matter?

Every OBIA Naturals product is optimized to a pH between 4.5 and 5.5 — the natural pH of healthy hair and skin. Maintaining this balance helps curl definition, moisture retention, and scalp health. Products with the wrong pH can lift the hair cuticle, causing frizz, breakage, and dryness. Our pH-balanced formulas work with your hair’s natural chemistry, not against it.

What harmful ingredients do your products NOT contain?

OBIA Naturals products are formulated WITHOUT:

  • Sulfates
  • Mineral oil or petroleum
  • DEA (diethanolamine)
  • Synthetic colors or dyes
  • Drying alcohols
  • Parabens or formaldehyde-releasing preservatives
  • Phthalates (all fragrances are phthalate-free)

All emulsifiers used are plant-based.

Are OBIA Naturals fragrances safe?

Yes. All fragrances used in OBIA Naturals products are phthalate-free. We are committed to using ingredients that are safe for you and your family, including those with sensitive skin.

Where are OBIA Naturals products made?

OBIA Naturals is a Black-owned, independent clean-beauty brand, and our products are proudly made in the USA in small, quality-controlled batches. This lets us keep our formulas fresh and our standards high.

2. Find Your Hair Type & Porosity

New to OBIA? Start here. Knowing your curl pattern and porosity makes choosing the right products simple.

What hair types are OBIA Naturals products designed for?

OBIA Naturals was developed with textured hair at the forefront — Type 2 (wavy), Type 3 (curly), and Type 4 (coily). We also offer products for both high and low porosity hair, plus protein-sensitive and coconut-oil-free options for those with sensitivities.

What are the different types of wavy (Type 2) hair?

Type 2 hair forms a loose “S” shape and has three subtypes: 2A (loose, gentle waves), 2B (more defined, medium “S” waves), and 2C (tighter, well-defined waves with some curls). Wavy hair is usually fine-to-medium and is easily weighed down, so it does best with light, buildable moisture and flexible hold.

What is Type 3 curly hair?

Type 3 hair features defined, springy curls that form S-shaped spirals, ranging from loose curls (3A) to tighter coils (3C). Type 3 curls are full of bounce and shine but often battle frizz, dryness, and inconsistency, so balanced hydration is key.

How do I know if I have Type 4 hair?

Type 4 hair is tightly coiled, deeply textured, and naturally voluminous. It ranges from soft and springy to tight and zigzag-shaped:

  • 4A: Defined “S”-pattern coils
  • 4B: Tighter “Z”-shaped coils with less definition
  • 4C: Densely packed coils with a very tight or almost indiscernible pattern, and significant shrinkage

Tip: shrinkage is normal and is actually a sign of healthy, elastic hair.

Why does coily hair tend to be dry?

Because of its curl pattern, it’s harder for the natural oils from your scalp to travel down each strand. This makes coily and tightly curled hair naturally more prone to dryness — which is why rich conditioners, leave-ins, and sealing oils are so important for keeping it soft and resilient.

What is hair porosity and why does it matter?

Porosity describes how easily your hair absorbs and holds moisture, and it determines which products and techniques work best for you:

  • Low porosity: a tightly sealed cuticle that resists moisture. Product can sit on top of the hair. Use lightweight, water-based products and a little heat to help absorption; avoid heavy butters as primary moisturizers.
  • High porosity: a raised, more open cuticle (often from color, heat, or damage) that absorbs moisture quickly but loses it just as fast. Use richer creams, protein when needed, and seal with oil to lock hydration in.
How can I tell my porosity at home?

Try the float test: drop a clean, dry strand of shed hair into a glass of water. If it floats for a while, you likely have low porosity. If it sinks quickly, you likely have high porosity. If it hovers in the middle, your porosity is balanced (medium / normal).

3. Choosing the Right Products

Tell us your hair and we’ll point you to the right OBIA picks.

How do I know which OBIA Naturals products are best for me?

Start with your curl type and your main goal — moisture, definition, repair, or scalp care — and build from there. A simple way to choose:

  • Type 3 (curly): Type 3 Moisture Bundle, Curl Moisture Cream, and Curl Enhancing Custard
  • Type 4 (coily): Type 4 Moisture Bundle, Sweet Almond Heavy Cream, and Twist Whip Butter
  • Low porosity: Low Porosity Hair Bundle and Curl Hydration Spray
  • Needs repair / breakage: Babassu Hair Therapy Mask plus the Argan Rose Hair Oil to seal
  • Protein- or coconut-sensitive: Protein-Free, Coconut-Oil-Free Bundle and Babassu Deep Conditioner

Still unsure? The OBIA bundles are built around specific hair types and goals, so they’re the easiest no-guesswork place to start.

Which products are best for low porosity hair?

Low porosity hair has a tightly sealed cuticle that resists moisture, so we recommend the Low Porosity Hair Bundle — lightweight, humectant-rich products that won’t just sit on top of the strand. Apply to damp hair with a little heat to help open the cuticle, and avoid heavy butters and thick oils as your main moisturizer.

I’m sensitive to protein or coconut oil. Do you have options for me?

Yes! We offer a Protein-Free, Coconut-Oil-Free Hair Bundle made specifically for sensitive curls. The Babassu Deep Conditioner is also 100% protein-free, and several of our styling products are coconut-oil-free.

What’s the difference between the Babassu Deep Conditioner and the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask?

Babassu Deep Conditioner (protein-free repair treatment): formulated WITHOUT protein — ideal for protein-sensitive hair and those prone to buildup. It focuses on deep moisture, softness, and detangling slip for regular conditioning.

Babassu Hair Therapy Mask (vegan plant-protein mask): contains a water-soluble blend of Rice and Wheat proteins to repair, strengthen, and reconstruct damaged strands. Best for color-treated, heat-damaged, or highly porous hair. Use with heat for maximum results.

Is the Babassu Deep Conditioner really protein-free?

Yes. The Babassu Deep Conditioner is 100% protein-free, making it a safe choice for protein-sensitive hair. If your hair tends to feel stiff, brittle, or suffers from hygral fatigue when using protein treatments, this is the deep conditioner for you.

Do you have products for men?

Yes! OBIA Naturals has a dedicated men’s collection, and our products work beautifully on all hair types and textures regardless of gender.

Do you offer body care products?

Yes. Our body care collection includes:

  • Kokum Body Butter — a rich, vegan whipped butter blending Kokum, Shea, and Coconut Butter with Lavender and Vitamin E for long-lasting moisture without greasiness.
  • Kokum Body Lotion — a lightweight, fast-absorbing daily moisturizer with Kokum, Shea, Coconut, and Aloe for all skin types.
  • OBOL Royal Body Oil — a luxury vegan Argan body oil for radiant, nourished skin.

All body care products are pH-balanced, vegan, and free from mineral oil, sulfates, parabens, and phthalates.

4. Products & Ingredients

What are the hero ingredients across OBIA Naturals products?

Our formulas feature a curated selection of plant-powered heroes, including:

  • Babassu Seed Oil — lightweight, deeply moisturizing, adds shine without heaviness
  • Argan Oil — rich in fatty acids and Vitamin E; softens, smooths, and conditions
  • Shea Butter — a classic emollient that seals in moisture and supports elasticity
  • Kokum Butter — non-comedogenic and lightweight; restores suppleness to hair and skin
  • Hydrolyzed Rice & Wheat Protein (Hair Therapy Mask) — strengthens and repairs
  • Sweet Almond Oil — conditions and adds softness and slip
  • Rosemary Leaf Extract — supports a healthy scalp and adds shine
  • Aloe Vera — hydrates, soothes, and supports curl definition
  • Neem Oil / Tea Tree Extract — calms and cleanses the scalp
What is a shampoo bar, and how do I use it?

A shampoo bar is a solid, concentrated cleanser that performs just like liquid shampoo but with far less packaging. OBIA Naturals offers two sulfate-free bars:

  • Coconut Shea Shampoo Bar — moisturizing, gentle cleanse for dry or normal hair
  • Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar — soothing and clarifying, ideal for itchy or flaky scalps

To use: wet hair thoroughly, rub the bar between your hands to build a lather (or apply directly to sections of the scalp), work in gently, then rinse well and follow with conditioner. Store on a draining soap dish to extend the bar’s life.

What’s the difference between a hair oil and a styling cream or butter?

Creams and butters (like Curl Moisture Cream, Sweet Almond Heavy Cream, and Twist Whip Butter) deliver water-based moisture and hold to define and soften your curls. A hair oil (like Argan Rose Hair Oil) is a sealing and finishing step — it locks in the moisture you’ve already applied and adds shine. For best results, moisturize first, then seal with oil.

Do your products contain silicones or waxes?

Our formulas are built around clean, plant-based ingredients and avoid the heavy, build-up-prone ingredients common in conventional haircare — including mineral oil and petroleum. Every full ingredient list is printed on the product and on each product page so you can check for anything you’re sensitive to.

How long do OBIA Naturals products last, and how should I store them?

For best performance, use products within about 12 months of opening and store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Because our formulas are clean and made in small batches, keeping lids closed and avoiding water contamination (especially in butters) helps them stay fresh.

5. How to Use & Build Your Routine

How do I build a healthy curly hair routine?

Follow four simple steps:

  1. Cleanse gently with a sulfate-free shampoo bar to remove buildup without stripping natural oils.
  2. Condition deeply with the Babassu Deep Conditioner (or the Hair Therapy Mask when you need protein).
  3. Add moisture with a leave-in like Curl Moisture Cream, Sweet Almond Heavy Cream, or Curl Hydration Spray.
  4. Style and seal with Curl Enhancing Custard or Twist Whip Butter, then lock it in with Argan Rose Hair Oil.
What’s the recommended wash day routine?

A suggested OBIA Naturals wash day sequence:

  1. Cleanse — Coconut Shea or Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar
  2. Deep condition — Babassu Deep Conditioner (or Hair Therapy Mask if using protein)
  3. Detangle & condition — Babassu Detangling Conditioner as a rinse-out
  4. Moisturize — Curl Moisture Cream, Sweet Almond Heavy Cream, or Curl Hydration Spray
  5. Style — Curl Enhancing Custard for definition, or Twist Whip Butter for a wash-and-go or twist out
  6. Seal — Argan Rose Hair Oil to lock in moisture
How do I use the Babassu Deep Conditioner?

After shampooing, apply generously from roots to ends. Cover with a plastic cap and leave on for at least 20–30 minutes — adding heat (a hooded dryer or steamer) intensifies results. Rinse thoroughly with cool water to seal the cuticle, then follow with your leave-in or styler.

How do I use the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask?

Apply generously to cleansed, damp hair from root to tip. Cover with a plastic cap for 30 minutes — heat or a steamer delivers the most intensive protein reconstruction. Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle, then follow with Curl Moisture Cream, Twist Whip Butter, or Sweet Almond Heavy Cream.

How often should I deep condition?

As a general rule, deep condition once a week. Drier, coilier, or high-porosity hair may benefit from deep conditioning every wash, while finer or low-porosity hair may only need it every other week. Listen to your hair: if it feels dry or brittle, condition more often; if it feels limp or mushy, you may be over-conditioning.

How do I do a wash and go with OBIA Naturals products?

Try the Defined Wash N’ Go Bundle: apply Curl Moisture Cream as your leave-in to soaking-wet hair, then rake or scrunch Curl Enhancing Custard through each section. Diffuse or air dry without touching, then scrunch out the cast once fully dry for soft, defined curls.

What products work best for a twist out?

For a defined, moisturized twist out, reach for the Perfect Twist Out Bundle. Apply Curl Moisture Cream as your leave-in on damp hair, then use Twist Whip Butter to twist each section. Let the hair dry completely before unraveling for the best definition.

How do I refresh my curls between wash days?

Mist your hair with Curl Hydration Spray to re-activate your curls and add moisture, then smooth a little Curl Moisture Cream or a few drops of Argan Rose Hair Oil over any frizzy areas. This revives definition without a full wash.

6. Hair Care Tips & Troubleshooting

How can I keep my curls defined without frizz?

Hydration and balance are key. Use moisture-rich products that enhance curl shape without heaviness or buildup, don’t over-apply stylers, and always detangle gently while hair is wet (with conditioner in) to protect your curl pattern. Sealing with a light oil and drying without touching also keeps frizz down.

How do I keep my waves or curls from falling flat by the end of the day?

Limp curls usually need lighter, buildable moisture plus flexible hold. For waves and finer hair, use lightweight products like Curl Hydration Spray and a small amount of Curl Enhancing Custard, and avoid heavy butters or oils, which can weigh fine strands down. Refresh midday with a spritz of Curl Hydration Spray.

Should I use heavy oils or butters on fine or wavy hair?

Generally, no — unless your strands are on the thicker side. Wavy and fine hair is easily weighed down, so focus on a non-stripping cleanser, a hydrating (not heavy) conditioner, and lightweight stylers. Save the rich butters like Twist Whip Butter for thicker, coilier textures.

My hair feels dry no matter what I do. What should I change?

Persistent dryness usually comes down to porosity and sealing. Make sure you’re applying leave-ins to damp (not dry) hair, then sealing with Argan Rose Hair Oil to trap that moisture in. For high-porosity hair, layer a richer cream like Sweet Almond Heavy Cream. If buildup might be blocking moisture, clarify with the Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar.

My hair feels stiff, brittle, or straw-like. What’s happening?

That can be a sign of too much protein (protein overload). Pause protein treatments like the Hair Therapy Mask and focus on moisture with the protein-free Babassu Deep Conditioner and Curl Moisture Cream until your hair feels soft and elastic again. Then reintroduce protein gradually, only as needed.

How do I know if my hair needs moisture or protein?

Gently stretch a wet strand. If it stretches a lot and feels mushy or limp before it snaps, your hair needs protein (try the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask). If it feels dry and snaps quickly with little stretch, it needs moisture (try the Babassu Deep Conditioner and a leave-in). Healthy hair stretches and bounces back.

Do you have anything for a dry, itchy, or flaky scalp?

Yes. Signs of a dry scalp include small white flakes, tightness, and mild itching. Cleanse with the Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar, which is soothing and clarifying for itchy or flaky scalps, and keep the rest of your routine gentle and sulfate-free. A healthy scalp is the foundation of healthy hair.

How can I reduce breakage and protect my length?

Detangle gently with conditioner on wet hair and a wide-tooth comb or fingers, keep your ends moisturized and sealed, and use protein support (Hair Therapy Mask) when your hair feels weak or over-stretched. Protective styles and sleeping on satin also help retain length.

7. What to Expect — Scent, Texture & Results

These are the questions customers ask most before buying — about how our products smell, feel, and perform — so you know exactly what to expect.

What do OBIA Naturals products smell like?

Our products use light, naturally-derived, phthalate-free fragrances meant to be pleasant but never overpowering. Scent is the thing customers notice and comment on most, so we keep ours clean and subtle — gently present when you apply, then settling into a soft finish rather than lingering heavily.

Are the fragrances strong or overpowering?

No — they're intentionally light. If you're sensitive to fragrance, our formulas are phthalate-free and the scent dissipates quickly after application rather than clinging to your hair all day.

Will these products really make my hair soft?

Softness and slip are exactly what our formulas are built to deliver, and it's the benefit customers report most consistently. The Babassu Deep Conditioner, Curl Moisture Cream, and Sweet Almond Heavy Cream are especially loved for leaving hair soft, smooth, and touchable.

Is the Argan Rose Hair Oil greasy or heavy?

No. It's a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil — a little goes a long way. Start with just 2–3 drops, warm them between your palms, and smooth over damp or dry ends, adding more only if needed. Using too much product is the most common reason any hair oil can feel greasy.

How much product should I use?

Start small and build up. For oils, 2–3 drops; for creams and butters, about a quarter-sized amount per section. OBIA formulas are concentrated, so over-applying can weigh hair down — especially fine or low-porosity hair.

Are OBIA Naturals products safe for color-treated or chemically-treated hair?

Yes. Our sulfate-free, pH-balanced formulas are gentle on color and chemical services and help preserve them. For color-treated, heat-damaged, or high-porosity hair, the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask is especially helpful for rebuilding strength and softness.

Can I use the Argan Rose Hair Oil to smooth frizz and add shine?

Yes — sealing a few drops over your finished style smooths flyaways and adds healthy shine. Note: don't apply oil directly before hot tools; use a dedicated heat protectant if you heat-style.

What size are the products, and how long will one last?

Each product page and Amazon listing shows the exact size (fluid ounces or net weight) so you know precisely what you're getting. Because our formulas are concentrated and used in small amounts, a single deep conditioner, styler, or oil typically lasts many wash days — often one to two months with regular use, depending on your hair's length and density.

Are OBIA Naturals products worth the price?

Our prices reflect clean, salon-quality formulas made in small USA batches with plant-based hero ingredients — and customers consistently tell us the results are worth it. Buying a bundle is the most cost-effective way to get the full routine at a lower per-product price.

My product leaked or arrived damaged. What should I do?

Oils and liquids can occasionally shift during shipping. If an item arrives leaking or damaged, contact us within five (5) business days with your name and order number (for obianaturals.com orders), or open a return through Your Orders (for Amazon purchases), and we'll make it right.
