Babassu Deep Conditioner — Protein-Free Moisture for Dry Curls
Water's a 7. Hair's a 5.
Every wash day, tap water lifts the shingles on your cuticle. Babassu Deep Conditioner coats every strand and brings it back to 5, so the shingles lie flat: shine, slip, moisture stays in. Formulated at pH 4.5–5.5 and strip‑tested every batch since 2012.
Your deep conditioner might be why your hair snaps.
Hair is 90% protein. Pile more on top of healthy or low‑porosity hair and it goes stiff and snaps. Babassu Deep Conditioner is protein‑free for exactly that reason: moisture every wash, with nothing to pile up.

This jar is for thirst.
A deep conditioner has one of two jobs: put water back in, or patch the gaps. Babassu Deep Conditioner does the first. No hydrolyzed proteins, so protein‑sensitive hair comes out soft, not stiff. If your hair needs rebuilding, that's the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask.
Reach for this jar if your hair…
- Feels dry, rough, or snaps when you stretch a wet strand
- Goes stiff or straw‑like after protein treatments
- Is low porosity (use heat, see below) or color‑treated
- Is type 3A–4C — it's as much a deep conditioner for 4C hair as for 3A curls
Reach for the Mask instead if…
- A wet strand stretches, sags, and doesn't bounce back — that's a protein gap
- You color, relax, or heat‑style often and need rebuilding every third or fourth wash
The 10‑second test: one wet strand, stretch. Snaps → moisture (this jar). Sags → protein (the Mask). Bounces back → leave it alone.
The science of slip.
Babassu seed oil
A light oil that melts close to body temperature, so it spreads and absorbs instead of sitting greasy on the strand.
Avocado oil
High in oleic acid, which sinks into the shaft rather than coating it.
Panthenol (provitamin B5)
A humectant: it pulls water in and holds it inside the strand, which keeps curls flexible instead of brittle.
Cationic conditioners
Cetrimonium chloride and stearamidopropyl dimethylamine are positively charged, so they cling to the rough spots on a dry strand and smooth them. That's the slip.
Rice bran oil
The oil, not rice protein. Softness without the pile‑up.
Rosemary & aloe
Rosemary leaf extract and aloe to soothe the scalp while the conditioner does its work.
pH 4.5–5.5. The slightly acidic range where the cuticle lies flat. Tap water sits at 7 and lifts the cuticle on wash day; this jar brings it back down. FREE FROM mineral oil, petroleum, sulfates, parabens. No silicones. Vegan and cruelty‑free. Made in our own manufacturing space in Dallas.
How to use it.
- Cleanse. Start with the Coconut Shea or Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar.
- Apply generously. Comb through root to tip.
- Cover for 30 minutes. Plastic cap on. Low porosity? Add a steamer or heat cap — a tight cuticle needs heat to let the conditioner in.
- Rinse with cool water. Cool water lays the cuticle back down.
- Seal with a leave‑in. Curl Moisture Cream (lighter), Sweet Almond Heavy Cream (richer), or Twist Whip Butter for a twist‑out.
What to expect: softer, easier‑to‑detangle hair on the first rinse. Give it three wash days to judge how long the moisture lasts.
Your curls get the final vote.

Love this conditioner, makes my hair so soft
Moisturizer is effective and smells great.
Consistently come back to this one!!!! FEEDS my dry hair
I have been on and off with Obia Naturals for a while. This one I consistently fall back on. Formula is still as good as it was when I first tried it. I have fine strands, very dense, on the drier-side hair. This gets me right every time!
Absolutely love this product and i pray it never gets discontinued! With all the deep conditioner options out there, there’s not a lot of them that are protein free and moisture focused! My hair loves this stuff and my hair stays hydrated for a week!!!!
Questions, answered.
Is it really protein‑free?
Yes. No hydrolyzed proteins of any kind. The rice ingredient is rice bran oil, not rice protein, so there's nothing to pile up on healthy or low‑porosity hair.
Deep Conditioner or Hair Therapy Mask — which one do I need?
Do the wet‑strand test. Stretch one wet strand: if it snaps, it's thirsty, so this jar. If it sags and doesn't bounce back, it has protein gaps, so the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask. If it bounces back, leave it alone. Most hair does best with moisture every wash and protein only when the strand asks.
Will it work on low‑porosity hair?
Yes, with heat. A tight cuticle doesn't let conditioner in on its own, so sit under a steamer or heat cap for the 30 minutes. It's the same reason the Low Porosity Hair Bundle is built around this jar.
Is it safe for color‑treated hair?
Yes. It's color‑safe, and because it's formulated at pH 4.5–5.5 it helps lay the cuticle flat, which is what keeps color from washing out.
How often should I use it?
Every wash day. It's moisture, so there's no such thing as too often. Give it three wash days before you judge how long the softness lasts.
What does "pH balanced" mean here?
It's a number, not a slogan. Hair and scalp sit at roughly 4.5–5.5. Tap water is 7, which lifts the cuticle every time you wet your hair. This conditioner is formulated at 4.5–5.5 and strip‑tested every batch, so it brings your hair back to where it lives.
What's it free from?
Mineral oil, petroleum, sulfates, parabens. No silicones, no animal waxes. Vegan and cruelty‑free. Every OBIA formula is made in our own manufacturing space in Dallas.
How much is in the jar?
8 oz / 226 g. Apply generously and comb it through root to tip — this is one product where more is more.
