Who it's for

Type 3A–4C hair that feels dry, rough or snaps easily — it's as much a deep conditioner for 4C hair as for 3A curls. Protein-sensitive, low porosity (with heat) and color-treated hair, too.

What's inside this deep conditioner, and why it works

Babassu seed oil — a light oil that melts close to body temperature, so it spreads and absorbs instead of sitting greasy on the strand.
Avocado oil — high in oleic acid, which sinks into the shaft rather than coating it.
Panthenol (provitamin B5) — a humectant, meaning it pulls water in and holds it inside the strand, which keeps curls flexible instead of brittle.
Cetrimonium chloride + stearamidopropyl dimethylamine — cationic (positively charged) conditioners that cling to rough spots on a dry strand and smooth them. That's the slip.
Rice bran oil — the oil, not rice protein.

How to use

Cleanse with the Coconut Shea or Neem Tea Tree Shampoo Bar.
Apply generously and comb through root to tip.
Cover with a plastic cap for 30 minutes. As a low porosity deep conditioner, it needs heat — a steamer or heat cap helps a tight cuticle let the conditioner in.
Rinse with cool water.
Follow with a leave-in: Curl Moisture Cream (lighter), Sweet Almond Heavy Cream (richer) or Twist Whip Butter for a twist-out.

I've used this twice since I received it! My hair soaks it up! This deep conditioner rinses out leaving my fine salt and pepper hair strands nicely coated without weighing it down. Here in the northeast as the air is dry in the winter indoors and out, it's nice to have a deep conditioner that holds onto moisture. The fragrance is very very mild (which I appreciate much) and I don't smell it after styling! I would purchase again!

I tried to like it

I purchased this thinking it would be good for my 4c natural hair. After the first use, my hair felt so dry and coated, if that makes sense. I thought it was something I did, so I decided to give it another try. I deep condition my hair weekly, so the next time I tried it, I did a clarifying shampoo to make sure my hair was squeaky clean, then applied the conditioner and sat under a plastic cap to help with the deep conditioning. After rinsing, I was disappointed again. I don't know why, but I gave it a third try and finally decided it wasn't me, it was the product. Very disappointed.

Is it really protein‑free?

Yes. No hydrolyzed proteins of any kind. The rice ingredient is rice bran oil, not rice protein, so there's nothing to pile up on healthy or low‑porosity hair.

Deep Conditioner or Hair Therapy Mask — which one do I need?

Do the wet‑strand test. Stretch one wet strand: if it snaps, it's thirsty, so this jar. If it sags and doesn't bounce back, it has protein gaps, so the Babassu Hair Therapy Mask. If it bounces back, leave it alone. Most hair does best with moisture every wash and protein only when the strand asks.

Will it work on low‑porosity hair?
